Real Estate Team: Managing people or leverage to achieve more?

The most common objective to building a real estate team is “I don’t want to manage people.” If you have worked in corporate America or in any management role in the past, you may still have nightmares of trying to manage people in the past.  If this is your past experience, then I completely understand your thought process when it comes to starting a real estate team.

There are many books available to teach managers effective tools and strategies to maximize their teams efforts. But in all reality, you can not effectively manage another person. No one wants to be managed! You can manage systems and you can manage projects, but you can not manage a human being. We do not function in that manner. Humans need to be led, inspired and empowered. We have a need for recognition, autonomy and a sense of accomplishment.

So let’s look at a different way of thinking. What would it look like to have inspired individuals working with you to meet a common goal? It sounds good but how? This is the secret sauce behind building an effective real estate team that so many Realtors do not understand or know the steps to achieve it.

Achieve more with leverage

Understanding who to hire, when to hire, how to hire is an important first step. Identifying how to train, lead and motivate is essential to the success of your hire and your team. All of these steps have been identified through the Keller Williams Realty systems and we supply the models to guide you along the path.

A few tools that I love to use for this process are the following:

  • Financial thermostat
  • Goal Setting
  • Vision board
  • 30-60-90 day results plan
  • 4-1-1 accountability tool

At our Team Building Coaching and Mastermind session on Tuesday, October 6th at 11:00, we will walk through these tools and how to effectively use them in your real estate team.
